Access Hospitality’s new coffee cart visits Mayfield View

Access Hospitality are a social enterprise that aims to remove barriers to employment for individuals with learning disabilities. They have recently been endorsed by the MP for Disabled people, Work and Health and today they visited Mayfield View Care Home to launch their new coffee cart. We invited residents, relatives and staff from businesses in the local community to enjoy their delicious coffee and some tasty treats from our wonderful hospitality team.

Katie Cliff, Home Manager, said “It was amazing to bring the community together with Access Hospitality to trial their new mobile coffee cart. It was hugely successful and we’re excited to welcome the team back next month.”

Springfields ‘Great British Day Out’

On August 31st, residents across our Springfield homes enjoyed a ‘Great British Day out’ with fancy dress, fish and chips, ice creams and a visit from DJ Doc Martyn at our Leeds homes. Our activities and wellbeing teams organised plenty of activities for residents to participate in from sandcastle building, volleyball, arts and crafts and much much more! Everyone had a great day and we’re all excited for our virtual trip to India next month!

Our Grab Your Passport initiative aims to connect our residents to the greater world and to allow them to experience a variety of cultures and tastes from all over the globe. Residents spend one day each month travelling, virtually, to another country to explore the history, art, music and cuisine. Residents are sure to enjoy their experience at each of these locations – they even get a stamp in their Springfield passport for each location they visit!

Welcoming party for Harcourt staff

On August 23rd, the Springfield team came together to celebrate their achievements and to celebrate the opening of our newest care home, Harcourt Gardens in October 2021. Guests enjoyed a catered buffet, an open bar, a chocolate fountain all whilst listening to beautiful music from the saxophonist.

HR Manager, Alice Grant said ‘it was a wonderful evening to celebrate and welcome the team who will be opening Harcourt Gardens. We’re so excited to get started and to welcome our first residents. Thank you to everyone that attended.”

Amazing career opportunities with Springfield Care Home

Yesterday we had 3 resignations from one of our homes … 3! In one day! My heart sank when I heard that news … recruiting is so darned difficult right now.  Then our home manager explained that one had been accepted for a scholarship for Teaching, one was leaving to pursue as career as a Dietitian and the third was starting a nursing associate programme at a Leeds Teaching Hospital. At that point my heart nearly burst with pride! Springfield is an amazing place to work … it might be your forever or it might be a stepping stone to other opportunities, whichever it is … get in touch and find out how we can support you to help our residents and to develop yourself.  Don’t underestimate how much a role in care can help you when you make a difference to others …

– Debbie Smith (HR Administration Manager – Springfield Care Home)

Springfield Walking Group takes to the streets of Seacroft

Springfield Healthcare have launched a new walking group ‘Springfield Strollers’ to encourage residents to get outside in the fresh air, to exercise and to meet new people.

There are so many great health benefits from being outside and our activities and wellbeing team are keen to encourage residents to explore the outdoors, to enjoy the local community and to meet new people on our travels. The outdoors has proved itself to be highly relaxing and greatly beneficial especially for individuals living with dementia, to help reduce anxieties or stress.

Residents who are not able to take part in the actual walking can still enjoy the experience from the comfort of their wheelchair. They can enjoy the company, the fun, the reminiscing, meeting new people and the sights, sounds and sensations of the outdoors.

Our teams at Seacroft have already been busy enjoying their time outside in the sunshine with residents and exploring the beautiful outdoors that we have on our doorstep at the Green.

Harcourt Gardens opening team come together for pizza and brownies

The Harcourt Gardens opening team have assembled this week for training, to participate in team building activities and to tuck in to pizza and brownies with Group CEO, Graeme Lee. Graeme joined us to welcome everyone to the team and to deliver the message that we strive to be the very best care home!

Alice Grant, HR Manager, said “I thought it would be nice to treat the team to brownies and wood-fired Pizza from Cosy P’s during the training, which staff absolutely loved. It was a nice break from training and it gave our new staff a chance to get to know one another!

I genuinely believe we have an amazing team here at Harcourt and will be expanding over the coming months! Our opening team are driven to succeed and we all want to make sure that we offer the best person-centred care and that our residents feel a part of the Springfield family.”

Everyone is excited to be a part of the Springfield family and we can’t wait to welcome our first residents.

Springfield Olympics at Seacroft Green Care Centre

Springfield residents’ virtual trip to the USA

On 27th July 2021, residents across Springfield Healthcare homes enjoyed July’s ‘Grab Your Passport! Day’ with a virtual trip to the USA! We had plenty of decorations across the homes, fancy dress from our wellbeing teams and lots of delicious American food throughout the day.
Residents at our homes in Leeds also enjoyed a visit from Blue Birds who visited to sing rock and roll songs throughout the day which everyone really enjoyed dancing and singing along too. Next month, we will be taking a trip Yorkshire across our homes in recognition of Yorkshire Day which occurs on August 1st.

Gardening Club at Springfield Care Homes

Our beautiful garden at Springfield Care Home, Garforth, is in full bloom and looks lovely thanks to our residents who are avid gardeners and take great pride in it. Our sunflowers have grown so much and we now have tomatoes and strawberries growing. We’re really excited to watch our garden grow over the summer months! 🌻🌻
At Seacroft Green Care Centre, our residents have enjoyed gardening, planting vegetables and watching them grow. We have a selection of vegetables that we enjoy cooking with and tasting, thanks to our gardening club. We’re excited to see what other fruits and vegetables we can grow this summer.
At Springfield, we believe that life should be spent doing the things we love and that is why we always encourage residents to continue to do the things they enjoy as well as develop new hobbies. We are committed to providing person-centred care for all residents, which is why our team make it their mission to get to know our residents interests and hobbies so we can tailor our activities and offer a varied wellbeing programme.
Giving our residents plenty of choice on how to spend their time is key to making life more fulfilling.
