World Mental Health Day
Every year, World Mental Health Day is recognised on the 10th October.
We all have Mental Health. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes, it’s not so good. You never know if or when you, or your loved ones, may need a little extra support.
At Springfield Healthcare, we encourage everyone to be aware of, and look after, their own Mental Health and Wellbeing. A great way to raise awareness is to support days such as this.
Our teams have organised events across the homes to provide resources and encourage conversations for residents and staff.
Our activities and wellbeing team at Chocolate Works visited residents, on communities and those in their rooms, with a sweets trolley to put a smile on their faces and some resources about World Mental Health Day. In the afternoon, they held a therapeutic silk painting session and took some residents out to the peace garden for fresh air and a chat.
Everyone had a lovely day, and it was great to have some open discussions about mental health.
Our care team enjoyed helping themselves to some self-care items from a mindfulness hamper that our activities team organised. This included face masks, hand creams, herbal tea bags, scented t-lights, lavender pillow mist, foot masks, heated face masks and much more!
Residents were all offered some ‘Time with Me’ with our activities team, where they talked about mental health before delivering positive affirmation cards and stickers for residents to keep.
At Seacroft Grange, our activities team organised a resident and staff ‘Tea & Talk’ where they tucked in to plenty of delicious cakes whilst having their afternoon tea and coffee. They held a quiz which incorporated some mental health questions and statistics which some of our residents were surprised to hear.
We spoke with residents and staff about their mental health which was very humbling.
