What to do in Yorkshire in Autumn
Autumn is the most beautiful time of year for taking walks through nature with its auburn scenery, crispy crunching leaves and fresh crisp air. And Yorkshire is the perfect place to experience this season’s beauty. Our location literally offers it all, from gentle slopes to enchanted woods full of trees with orange tints and lovely streams. Grab your walking shoes and take a stroll with our list of the best autumnal locations in Yorkshire before retiring for the evening under a blanket.
Harewood House
Harewood House, located just outside of Leeds, has over 100 acres of beautiful gardens with a variety of plants that change to beautiful orange hues in Autumn. It is a perfect spot for the family to explore its award- winning landscapes, hosting a plethora of activities over the season, from talks and exhibitions to arts and crafts activities. We would highly recommend partaking in the ‘Floral Pumpkin Workshop’ where you can make your own festive home decorations. Harewood House is open 7 days a week and can be easily accessed by car or bus. It is also wheelchair accessible and is proud to have over 50 Visitor Experience staff and volunteers who are Dementia Friends.

Afternoon Tea in York
York is a stunning city to visit in the Autumnal season. Being one of the greenest cities, red, orange and yellow colours can be seen everywhere! As the temperature cools in Autumn, there are plenty of cafes and tearooms where you can stay warm and grab a hot drink and slice of cake. We would recommend visiting The Countess of York – a beautifully restored rail carriage at the National Railway Museum. Enjoy a selection of delicious sandwiches, homemade cakes, and a wide variety of teas, all whilst dining aboard a gorgeously restored rail carriage.
Thorp Perrow
Thorp Perrow has a massive expanse of land that can be explored by the whole family. Take a stroll in the Arboretum, watch your children play in the playground, be amazed by Birds of Prey displays, or enjoy one of the many workshops, concerts, and guided tours. It is a place to enjoy the last of the sunshine and unwind in the natural scenery. Head to their website to learn more about their opening times and events.
