Springfield’s Reverse Advent Calendar
In the countdown to Christmas, homes up and down the country will be opening their advent calendars, but this year, Springfield Care Home are looking to reverse things and give something back to the community. The Springfield Reverse Advent Calendar encourages staff and others to do the giving and donate a different item each day during advent. On Christmas Eve the donations will then be delivered to the local food bank to help others during the festive period.
Eve Moran, Deputy Manager at Seacroft Grange said “I read about this initiative online and thought that it was the perfect way to give back to the community over the Christmas period. We created a calendar of donation ideas, and asked staff to donate what they could. We have been overwhelmed by the contributions and are delighted that we have been able to collect so much already in such a short period of time.”
This initiative isn’t just about encouraging people to make a donation to the local food bank, but to raise awareness, during the month of December, about food poverty and how everyone can help. If you would like to take part and do your own reverse advent calendar, all you need to do is find a box, add whatever items you can throughout the month and then donate it to a local food bank / charity.
