‘Inseparable’ couple recreate wedding photo to mark 70th anniversary

A couple have marked 70 years of marriage with a special photoshoot. Vera and Keith Skelton were married in 1953 and have three children, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

When asked about their secret to a long-lasting marriage, Vera said: “Trust and love each other – we have always been so happy together, regardless of age.” 88-year-old Vera and 89-year-old Keith moved into a West Yorkshire care home just weeks before their Platinum anniversary.

“We knew from the moment that Vera and Keith moved in that their love for each other was something truly unique,” said Katie Cliff, home manager at Mayfield View, in Ilkley. Staff decided to do something special to mark the significant occasion.

To help bring back happy memories, they arranged for a professional photoshoot to recreate the couple’s wedding day photos. “With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there is a lot of love in the air,” said Katie.

“We’re delighted to be able to help Vera and Keith re-live their wedding day together.” In addition, the home will be hosting an afternoon tea party for the couple come spring.

Their lifelong friend Marion said: “Since I have known them, it is very clear that Vera and Keith can’t live without each other. They really are inseparable, and it is wonderful that they have been able to stay together and continue their love story at Mayfield View.”
