Staff Spotlight – Shannon Bingham
At Springfield Healthcare we are incredibly proud of our passionate and friendly care teams. We have created a blog series to shine a spotlight on some of these individuals, to find out more about their roles and responsibilities as well as what day-to-day interactions they have with our residents.
This month, we have spoken to Shannon Bingham, HR Advisor at Chocolate Works Care Village.
What is your job role at Springfield Healthcare?
I am a HR Advisor for Springfield Healthcare, based at our home in York, Chocolate Works Care Village. I oversee the administration procedures from recruitment, payroll, staff benefits, workplace safety, employee rights etc… This is my first adventure in HR and I am absolutely loving it.
How long have you been working at Springfield Healthcare?
I previously worked at Chocolate Works as a Care Assistant in 2020, before leaving in 2021 to work in Occupational Health as a technician and administrator. I re-joined the team at Chocolate Works in 2022 when an opportunity arose for me to work in HR.
Do you ever visit or work at any others or are you fixed to one location?
I work at Chocolate Works, however I do visit other homes from time to time and often speak with other HR Advisors across the group to discuss updates and processes. Although we work in different homes, we support one another and always have the support of Group Head of HR, who is only a phone call away and often visits the homes to check in.
What is the best thing about working for Springfield Healthcare?
The staff! Without our amazing care team we wouldn’t be able to provide such high quality care for our residents. We are a family and always looking out for one another and help each other out.
I also love how Springfield are investing in staff wellbeing. We have recently introduced our brilliant Medicash Health Plan, which gives you 24/7 access to doctors and counsellors, cash-back on prescriptions, eye care, dental care and more. We also pay for a 2 year subscription of the blue light card which gives you discount at a variety of high street shops.
We are really keen to break the stigma surrounding Mental Health. I do weekly sessions with staff members here at Chocolate Works. We talk, we laugh and we sometimes cry, but we always feel better afterwards.
What sort of other domestic and non-care-related tasks do you offer to residents?
Residents enjoy our wide range of activities that we offer. Some of our favourite activities include gardening and flower arranging, residents really enjoy spending time on our beautiful rooftop terrace. They also love going on trips out to explore the city.
What is the best thing about the team of staff at Springfield Healthcare?
The best thing is how we all pull together, regardless of the task at hand.
